How do I ftp into my account to upload my files ?

When you initially sign up and are setting up/transferring your domain name you can use the IP of the server you are on as the ftp address - This is supplied in the Welcome to Hummingbird Hosting Email.

The FTP username and password are those that you created when setting up the domain in the Control Panel. If you hvae forgotten what you set as the FTP password, you can reset it using the steps in the guide below,

Changing the FTP password

Upload all files to httpdocs except cgi scripts which go in the cgi-bin directory.

Once the domain name is live on Hummingbird Hosting (i.e your domain is pointing to our DNS server) you can log into ftp using ftp.yourdomainname.com.

Note: Front Page Users must wait until the domain name is pointing to our server before publishing. It is not possible to use the IP address with Front Page.

If you are unable to FTP into the account, please check that you have setup the domain as per the instructions here and that the ftp address, username and password in your FTP client are correct.

Where do I find the Path to Send Mail, Perl and my home directory ?

Please contact support@hummingbirdhosting.com to request that the perldiver.cgi script be sent to you. You will need to then upload this script to your cgi-bin, CHMOD it to 755 and then run it from your web browser. It will provide full path information specific to the domain.

How do I access my Statistics ?

Log into your control panel, click on Domains, then click on the domain name you want stats for. Next click on Report, and then finally Webalizer. A new page will pop up with your stats. The stats are updated daily. It is also possible to download the log file from your Logs directory and use any Log analyzer of your choice to produce statistics.

How can I stop people from using my website to send spam email ?

Don't use formail.pl or formail.cgi, or other .cgi based formmails, to send results from webpages to email. Please find another script/method to send results from a webpage to email or better yet, send form results to the server and retrieve them from there. We have very strict policies on Spam email, it is your responsibility to ensure that your account is secure and to report any suspect activity to Support.

I am getting the error "Relaying Denied" or " 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1)" when I try to send mail through my email program

Please see the answer above.

I am receiving a "The connection to the server has failed. Account: '', Server: 'mail.yourdomainname.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E" error when attempting to send emails.

The error you are receiving indicates that it is a Port 25 problem, where your ISP is blocking the use of external mail servers, or port 25.

You may wish to you contact your ISP and check whether they have recently started doing this as many ISPs are now blocking the usage of port 25 to stop spam being sent from their servers. If they do restrict usage of external mail servers to send emails, you will need to use their mailserver name as the outgoing smtp mailserver in your email client for this email account. It will still appear as coming from the domain but will be using your ISP mailserver to send instead.

Why does my email return the error '-ERR You have exceeded the number of connections you are permitted to make per hour. Please wait a couple of minutes and try again.'?

Emails can only be checked once each 5 minutes if you are using an email client Outlook Express.

Why does my domain only have xx MB bandwidth/disk space allocated to it when I signed up for a larger plan?

When a domain is setup in the control panel, it is allocated the default disk space, bandwidth etc. Instructions on how to change these are available here,

Modify A Domain Account

I have uploaded my files to your server but can't view my domain using the I.P.

It is not possible to view sites via IP address. It is possible to upload via FTP to the IP address.

I have uploaded my files to the server but when I go to my domain I still get the placeholder.

You may not have uploaded your index.html page. This will overwrite the default placeholder index.html. If you have already done this, click refresh on your browser. You can also upload a page called index.htm but you will need to delete the index.html file for it to work.

I have just setup my domain in the control panel and uploaded my files to your server but am getting a "Forbidden. You don't have permissions to access / on this server" when I try to view my domain.

This indicates that there is no index.html or index.htm file in the directory you are trying to access.

I have just purchased my domain/changed the nameservers on an existing domain to point to your servers and have set up the domain in the Control Panel. How long until I am able to view my site on the WWW?

It will take between 24-72 hours for the new and changed name server to spread throughout the internet.

What are the nameservers for the server my account is hosted on?

Please contact support@hummingbirdhosting.com for the nameserver information, supplying your account username.
